SolidMentor News : Just got a NextEngine scanner
Posted by Ben on 2008/7/4 13:20:00 (6 reads)

I just got a next engine scanner and will be reporting on it as I learn. I know, I know I am the guy that can make his own scanner and on the cheap but there is one thing I state when I teach others how to make their own scanner. 'If you want plug and play this is NOT for you'. This is plug and play and so far WOW! easy as hell to use in my opinion and resolution is awsome. So far I will highly recommend this to anyone who wants plug and play....

SolidMentor News : Rant...
Posted by Ben on 2008/6/30 9:10:00 (54 reads)

I love SolidWorks, truely I do. But sometimes I struggle with how things are run at the SW offices. Last SolidWorks World I had to fight to get into the event as press even though I have one of the highest traffic websites devoted to SolidWorks. For me to go to SWW it is mandatory that I go as press otherwise it is not worth the time or effort to me. Anyhow that is in the past and after voicing my opinion to SW they eventually gave me a press pass.

Now there is a big press event coming up in September and again I am not invited? Most if not all of the other bloggers are invited I just do not know what I have done or who I have angered at SW but again I am not invited. For me to run this site I need to be in the loop and SW has done its best to keep me out of it. You win SW I am tired of asking for equal treatment you will get no argument from me on this one....

Before you all tag me as a whiner and such keep in mind that I run this site for free to everyone, and the occasional bonus such as being considered press make this site worth the time effort and energy. I am now questioning if it is worth continuing on with SolidMentor as it is getting harder and harder to report on SW and its geeky goodness as SW itself seems to not want me to, I will be considering where I go in the future with this site if anywhere at all in the next few weeks....

SolidMentor News : Ruined iPhone dream in Canada
Posted by Ben on 2008/6/29 19:36:25 (30 reads)

Hey all, I know this is really off topic but it is my help in trying to stop a monopoly in Canada. I cannot even get close to explaining this well but go here and have a read and please sign the petition and help us out.

In summary for what you pay for a iPhone and data package in the rest of the world you would need to have the phone for 3-5 years to pay what we would in 1 year! There are two cell phone companies in Canada and they are exploiting us. This site has been up for 48 hours now and has 14 000 signatures. This will give you an idea of how upset the public is with this. SIGN THE PETITION for us will ya.

SolidMentor News : For all us Mac Fans out there....
Posted by Ben on 2008/6/29 9:20:00 (22 reads)

Q: Is SolidWorks supported for a Mac?
A: SolidWorks is not currently supported for use with a native Mac operating system. Also, SolidWorks is not supported or tested on Macs using Windows XP. However, despite this not being supported, if the Mac in question contains certified hardware (some Mac Pro desktops can be ordered with NVIDIA Quadro graphics cards) the install and function of SolidWorks should function. Again, this is untested and unsupported. Please see the below links for our certified hardware:

http://www.solidworks.com/pages/services/videocardtesting.html
http://www.solidworks.com/pages/services/SystemRequirements.html

Also, we currently have an enhancement request open to gauge interest in SolidWorks for Mac. The SPR number for this is 278910. Please refer to the SPR Look-up Subscription Services site for the latest status of this SPR. (http://www.solidworks.com/pages/services/subscription/ServicePackMaintenanceNotes.html)
Please contact your reseller in order to be added to the notification list to be contacted when this functionality has been added.

So here is the deal. All of us out there using this needs to submit a Service Request referencing this SPR number (278910) in order to send a message to SW about getting this passed. At least in this article it acknowledges that SW can run on a Mac (well Mac Pro).

This inside source did not want to be named but I can tell you this, his first name rhymes with Lou and his last Rhymes with Gallo...

SolidMentor News : And Finally the answer to the contest and the winner
Posted by Ben on 2008/5/16 11:00:00 (278 reads)

The contest only had one person enter and although he was very close he did not quite get it. I did however find a solution!

So the winner by default is Brice McPherson! Thanks Brice for entering I was starting to think no one liked the prize or had something against me

The solution is after the jump
(For those that do not know what 'after the jump' means... Click the title of the article and it will jump you to the full article with the explanaiton)
